Clare names Professor Mark Rose AM as inaugural First Nations Commissioner of ATEC for a five-year term commencing 17 August — the first person to hold the role as the commission stands up its governance structure (6 August). Rose brings more than 40 years of Indigenous education experience across higher education, VET, policy, and community advocacy, and was previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Innovation) at Deakin University. ATEC Chief Commissioner Barney Glover: "Professor Rose is an outstanding leader whose deep knowledge of education, policy and community engagement will be tremendous." Clare: "Professor Mark Rose is one of Australia's most respected Indigenous educators and leaders." First Nations university student numbers have risen nearly 13% over the past three years; Commonwealth Supported Places remain uncapped for First Nations students. The Higher Education GBV Regulator publishes a Statement of Regulatory Expectations on providers' use of confidentiality clauses and non-disclosure agreements in gender-based violence disclosures and complaints (5 August). The statement identifies opportunities to strengthen confidentiality practices and supports providers in assessing whether existing policies and procedures are consistent with regulatory requirements; it follows the EOI for GBV Equity and Response Uplift grants opened in July.
